Students' eportfolio using Posterous

I have asked a couple of Year 6 students to help me try out the Posterous app to get started with their eportfolios. At the moment it's a pilot project and next week when we come back from holidays I'll give an introduction to the rest of Year 6.

Here are a couple of examples:

As a first stage I asked them to upload their favourite pieces of work and describe them. They haven't reflected on them yet. They will do the reflection as a comment on their blogs after the holidays.

I am also trying out Edmodo as a "little cloud" for them to store homework instead of memory sticks. It is very tempting for them to use it as a sort of facebook and at the moment we have set some rules but still I think sometimes it's hard to teach how to be “principled” using social networks.

I also have a question of which I hope one of you could help me out. At the moment we use Moodle as the school's educational platform but since it is hosted by an outsourcing company it is no longer reliable and for some reason it is not available 24/7. So teachers can’t upload homework and students can’t open it at home. Any way the thing is that I am thinking to use a combination of Moodle and Edmodo. Moodle has already lots of information from each year group and teachers wouldn’t be very happy if we want to try another educational platform. Another advantage with Edmodo is that is way easier to administrate. Any of you have the same problem?

Cheers,

Miros
